Founded by Andrew Cowderoy
Born with a strong affinity for the outdoors, Andrew Cowderoy’s story is anchored in the rugged landscapes and coastal waters of Scotland. Educated at Gordonstoun — a school celebrated for its focus on character, service, and outdoor learning — Andrew spent his formative years sailing the Moray Firth, exploring the West Coast of Scotland, and venturing further afield on global voyages. His passion for wild places soon transformed into purpose as he trained to become an instructor in skiing, sailing, kayaking, and canoeing. From guiding groups through the Trossachs' lochs to New York's lakes or the slopes of the Rocky Mountains, he was never far from water, wind, and wilderness.
A stint at sea followed, where Andrew trained as a navigating officer aboard a deep-sea ship. But after being forced ashore due to health reasons, he reoriented his journey — founding a wellbeing company that merged physical training, seafarer welfare, and tech-enabled support for those working offshore. In 2020, life brought Andrew and his wife back to Scotland. They spent a year in the Trossachs, where they welcomed their daughter into the world, before settling in Nairn on the edge of the Scottish Highlands. There, Andrew rekindled his passion for the wild — combining photography, outdoor education, and a global perspective shaped by time in London, Africa, and across the oceans.
Today, Andrew curates bespoke journeys across Scotland — deeply immersive, thoughtfully designed, and always rooted in authenticity. In partnership with friends and trusted collaborators, his adventures blend the thrill of exploration with a slower, more meaningful way of travelling. Whether tracing sea lochs, driving remote tracks, or sharing stories by firelight, you’re invited to experience Scotland through Andrew’s eyes — wild, welcoming, and unforgettable.
Partners
At Cowderoy Adventures, we believe that great journeys are shaped by the company you keep. That’s why we work alongside a handpicked group of trusted partners who share our passion for quality, authenticity, and the great Scottish outdoors. From expert mechanics keeping our Land Rovers expedition-ready to local distillers, craftspeople, conservationists, and fellow adventurers — each collaborator brings depth, skill, and soul to the experiences we create. These people know the land, love the details and understand the importance of doing things correctly. Together, we craft adventures that are as considered as they are unforgettable — whether it’s a sunrise breakfast on a hidden loch, a rooftop camp beneath the stars, or a dram by the fire after a day on the hill. These partnerships are built on shared values, mutual respect, and a belief in doing things correctly. Thanks to them, we can open up parts of Scotland few get to see—and do it with warmth, generosity, and quiet excellence.
How we work best
Your Enquiry: Whether you’re a seasoned traveller or a first-time explorer of the Highlands, every journey begins with a conversation. From the moment you get in touch, our small and experienced team offers thoughtful guidance — drawing on deep local knowledge, trusted partners, and years of experience curating exceptional Highland experiences.
The Planning Stage: Once we’ve uncovered what inspires you —Land Rover trails, whisky tastings, wild camping, or country pursuits — we secure your journey with an initial deposit and build your tailored itinerary. You’ll work directly with Andrew and our close-knit team to shape an experience that balances comfort, character, and adventure.
On-the-Ground Scouting: From quiet Lochside clearings for wild camping to behind-the-scenes distillery access and trusted local ghillies, we take time to ensure every detail is in place. These recce trips allow us to fine-tune the journey to suit your pace, preferences, and sense of curiosity — always with permission from landowners and a light footprint on the land.
The Adventure Itself: When the day comes, everything is ready — from your Defender’s route to your morning coffee kit. A dedicated guide or drive-in convoy will accompany you if you are self-guided, with full support from our Highland base. We remain agile, adapting routes and moments as the mood or weather demands, always with your comfort and experience in mind.
After the Journey: Following your return, we’ll share a curated photography gallery from your trip, offer options for bespoke prints, and provide a short reflective travel journal. And if you’ve met a craftsman, discovered a distillery, or taken part in a conservation initiative — we’ll make sure those connections last, too
